BABSOC/EISSOC Masquerade Ball 2009-Report
Friday, 02 October 2009

This year’s BABSOC/EISSOC Masquerade Ball provided an opportunity for BABSOC students to let their hair down and take some time out from the stress of assessments and exams. The night was held on a beautiful Sydney night, on the 18th September, at the Star Room with a stunning view of Darling Harbour.

It was a pleasure to see everyone get into the theme, the masks were beautiful and so were all the suits and frocks - but it wasn’t just about turning up and looking pretty. The BABSOC/EISSOC team had plenty of fun and games lined up to keep every masquerader challenged as well as amused.

For all those that got stuck into the ANAGRAM, (and lets not kid ourselves – the academics weren’t the only ones scribbling furiously throughout their mains and desert), the 17 letter word was BIOPHARMACEUTICAL. Congratulations to table winning 8 overall – it should be pointed out that the overall winners didn’t even figure out the 17 letter word!

A free round of drinks went to table 6 for being the first to solve our masquerade mystery game, Famous Faces, where guests were given photos of masks and throughout the night they had to find out the names of the people behind the masks.

There was plenty more action to be found on the dance floor - the evident talent our students exhibited in dancing the Greek Zorba the team found particularly impressive. We’d also like to give special thanks to the Academics and postgrads who got up and demonstrated that they’ve still got it (sort of).

Lets not forget the REAL winners of the night, the BABSOC Masquerade Ball BEST DRESSED winners, Anne Galea and Laurenco Fernandes. Anne in a stunning maroon satin dress, black feather fascinator and black satin gloves and Lorenzo in a suave and sophisticated gold mask, black suit, hat and complete with gold chain watch fashionably tucked into his breast jacket pocket.

Congratulations also goes to our Crown Scientific complimentary ticket winners John Foster and Rebekka Williams!

We’d like to thank those who attended for showing your support by being there and for being so spectacularly well-behaved. Thank you to ARC, Crown Scientific and Resmed for sponsoring the event, it’s the reason why our tickets were so cheap!

The entire team had a lot of fun, it has been a great reward for this year’s hard work. We hope everyone enjoyed it just as much as us.

And we can’t wait til next year!!!

The BABSOC/EISSOC Team
